“Set at the top of Mykonos Town, this luxury gay-exclusive hotel is one stylish sanctuary.”
Elysium. In Greek mythology it roughly translates as the playground of the gods – and that’s exactly the kind of vibe this hotel aims to echo. Plus, it’s the only 4-star exclusively gay accommodation in Mykonos, so if you’re looking to have a good time in style, this place ticks all the boxes.
Location-wise, it’s set right at the top of Mykonos Town. So, as you can imagine, the views are to die for. That said, the climb up can be pretty demanding. Still, if you don’t fancy the legwork you could always hop in a cab or hire a scooter – the easiest way to get around the island. And when you get to the top, it’s worth it. You’ve got the whole of Mykonos Town stretching out beneath you.
From early-evening drinks at the Montparnasse Piano Bar, to all-night clubbing at Ramrod in the harbour, it’s all right on your doorstep. Plus, when you’re looking for sprawl-on-me sands the morning after, it’s easy to get to the gay beaches, too. Just head down to the harbour, hop on the local bus and you can be on Elia Beach in around 25 minutes.
As for the hotel itself, it’s a stylish Greek number – all sugarcube apartments with windows trimmed in cobalt-blue. Outside, everything centres around the kind of pool scene that could provide the backdrop for a fashion mag photoshoot. Daybeds, thatched parasols and comfy loungers dot the poolside. And because of the hotel’s elevated position, you get a great view of the Aegean. In fact that’s one of the reasons this place is so popular at sunset. People flock to the Elysium poolside bar to order a cocktail, listen to the DJ, and watch the sun dip behind the waves. So, handily, you’re in the perfect spot to start your evening.
